19 July 2010: Pedro Juan Caballero Week #4
Dear Family and Friends,
How are you all doing? Thanks for all the letters this week. This week went by extra fast and was quite the experiance.
On tuesday my comp and I made the close to two hour trip in colectivo and car to the town Santa Clara which if you want to look at on google earth is like 40 km on ruta 5, then like 24 km in on a dirt road and then a hour walk on just a jungle trail... I will send some pictures to show you what it is like. The trip went well but all we did was plan for a meeting will all the indians in the colony for thursday.
Wendsday we just worked here in Pedro juan and waited for Elder Adams the asistant from Preston to get here early thursday morning.
We then headed out again on thursday but it was cold and raining and the indians didnt all come but we found two that could be baptised prepared them. we also set up another meeting for saturday hoping for better weather that didnt come.
Saturday was crazy too we asked president if we could take his car because he came friday night and he let us. we went out the and parked the car at this house that we were parking the other car at but nobody was home . we left it any way and went to do the visits while we were out some of theindians wanted us to take this old sick guy to the hospital in Pedro Juan. We didnt know what to do but did it any way., the guy was like 70 and was having troubles breathing we carried him in a hamack to the car but the gate to the house where we parked the car was locked ansd nobody was home we didnt know what to do because we had a dieing indian laying in the road and no way to get out the car. we wait a minute and the police came and said just that the owner got home and didnt know whose car it was and was afraid of it being a drug car getting marijana from the jungle? any way they unlocked the gate and everything turned out fine. we got the guy to the hospital.
Sunday we took President and Hermana Madariaga planning on at least four baptisms but when we got there the indians we waiting on the dirt road for the body of the old man we had taken to the hospital because he had died that night. we decided to wait on the baptisms and instead did a funeral with the indians. It was good I think it was meant to turn out like that. The indians are the most amazing people I have ever met they dont have power or any thing like that so it is like a clean or pure land. It is the most beautiful place I have been too.
So all in all we didnt baptise but I learned so much from the time I had with the asistants and with president.
Saturday night I learned a lesson from Elder Vance the asistant from Idaho Falls he decided that since we got to the house thirty minutes early that we should leave and do contacts til nine even though it was raining and cold and the chances of someone letting us in was very slim but we did and found a new investigator. That was a testimony to me that if we have the faith to do all we can, that God will bless us.
This week to come is going to be fun too we have to go to santa clara to do the baptisms on sunday but other than that I dont have much.
This is the only letter I will be able to write and due to super slow computer I dont have a way to send the pictures sorry about not anwsering each letter personally.
I love you all Love Elder Call
