24 May 2010: Aregua cerca Luque Week #8

Part of the mission news letter written by Justin's companion about their success:

(Think Outside the Box – Mix it up!)

Well  we had a few little  miracles this week.   Just little animo boosters.   We were pretty behind  coming into the end  of the week, but  went out and worked  hard and were blessed  with what we needed.   It was a pretty  clear example that if  we do all we can,  the Lord will put  in the rest.  We  also found a few  good new people to  teach.  We'd been  using the suggestions  of the week, and  had a little success  from that, but what  really seemed to work  for us, was we  went to parts of  out area at different  times than normal.   We kind of have  a little route that  we always make, so  we´re almost always  in the same areas  at about the same  time, but we went  the other direction,  and found some people  that aren't usually  there during the day.   We also married/baptized  a couple this week.   It was really cool,  I've loved seeing them  progress, and change.      Love the mission.     Elder Eliason

Dear Family and Friends,

Thanks for the letters this week it was fun to here from you again. We had another way good week. The weeks seem to be flying by. This time of year here is absolutly perfect not too hot, not too cold. It doesnt seem like that much happened here to tell you about but we did have a cool experiance.

The other night I was just talking to Elder Spencer one of the zone leaders that lives with us and we were just talking about Lessons I was telling him I didnt like just teaching all the lessons using the pamplets like almost every missionary does here. We just get in the habit of teaching the same lessons to every one. But, it doesnt seem to be that effective. He then said you know If I could change one thing through my whole mission that would be that I would use more Examples. He then told me of a couple that he has used. One of the was the RAT TRAP.  It is a lesson on faith in the promises of the Lord and can be applied in almost any way but I loved the idea. My comp and I then bought the Trap We got a huge one And this is what you do Throughtout the Lesson set the trap and show them that it works! They are pretty intimidating. Then with out them know release the spring that makes it snap and re-set it. Then with all seriousness tell them to touch the trap. They think you are kidding at first but then start the promises. Promise them that when they touch it it will not snap. give them confidence. Tell them to have the faith and to trust you tell them that you love them and you wouldnt want them to get hurt and any thing else you need to, to make them touch it. it takes a while  but after a while they will do it-

We took the trap and did this lesson with an investigator  named Maria Victoria that has been a horrible invesigator and had never had the faith to trust us and go to church even though for several years missionaries have been promising blessings for going to church. To make a long story short  she went to church on sunday and is planning on getting baptised on the 11 of June. She now is trusting in the Lord to help her through the little doubts that were stopping her from progressing before. I am thankful that I am here and have the oppertunities like this to see the gospel change peoples lives.

We are planning on using the rat trap often and whenever some one needs the extra boost of faith. IT WORKS!!

That was the highlight of my week we had Five investigators in church but are still a couple weeks out on any baptisms.

One other thing that made me really feel the joy of being a missionary is when we went to visit our family Osvaldo and Adela. We just went to visit and found Adela with all of her church books looking for pictures and stuff like that and putting them in picture frames up on her wall. I was kind of shocked she had spent 6 hours changing the pictures of the Virgin Mary and Catholic Saints into pictures of Our Savior Jesus Christ. I have a picture to remember it.,  But ya the joy that come to see someones life change 180 degrees is absolutly a miracle.

 With Lots of Love,
                     Elder Call

The front door of the church when it was broken into.

The field me and my comp chopped down for a service. I got several blisters.

Two of the baptisms. Maria and Maria.

The pictures on Adela's wall.

This sunset is awesome.
